Overview:
The Technical Services division of GB (GBTS) is looking to hire an Environmental Field Technician to work and support the for the Environmental/Industrial Hygiene practice area in NYC within the Building Sciences Group. The position will include field assessment/sampling, research, and report preparation.

Job Details:

This position is a contracted position and jobs are on an as needed basis
Projects can last from weeks to months at a time
Pay is $32/hr

How you'll make an impact:
Learn continuously throughout your career
Perform asbestos, lead, mold, and indoor air quality Investigations, as well as Hazardous Building Materials surveys include some of the contaminants previously noted, also including PCBs, Universal Wastes and other regulated chemicals
Work assignments will primarily be in the Tri-State area with some travel to “Downstate” areas, the Hudson Valley
Typical tasks include:
the collection of suspect asbestos/lead containing materials, PCBs, mold air and tape lift samples, the completion of chain of custody forms, sample locations plans, the preparation of detailed field notes, and collection of photographs. The use of various instruments to investigate air quality, exposures to environmental contaminants, and the use of moisture meters/thermal imagery cameras. The use of direct-read instrumentation and the downloading of same. The calibration of all equipment as required
Report preparation, the compilation of data collected from the field, obtaining lab data and the drafting of reports for senior management review. Work with the administrative staff in the preparation of tables, figures, photologs etc
The need for flexible work hours which would include days, nights, and some weekend work
Be able to work remotely and/or at NYC office and take responsibility for proactive communication with management regarding workload and any problems as they arise

About you:
Additional Requirements:

Must be able to pass a medical exam for use of a respirator

Required:

Bachelor's degree and 1 - 2 years related experience
Must have valid driver's license and dependable automobile transportation available

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences
2+ yrs of work experience
Excellent English language technical writing and editing
Job may require after-hours work and some travel
Competent in high school level mathematics a minimum
Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Able to effectively prioritize assignments
Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
