Job Description
SUMMARY
Performs all related duties necessary for maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment used in production plant;
for maintenance and repair of the physical structure, electrical, and plumbing systems of the buildings;
and, when necessary, performs various construction/remodeling duties to company property as assigned. Also performs electrical maintenance and repairs of plant production equipment and commercial building.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Follows all company safety rules and policies.
Must be able to read, understands and follows schematics, wire and parts diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer’s specifications to repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment such as, but not limited to, motors, pneumatic, hydraulic, conveyor systems and production machines and equipment using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments.
Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble. Root Cause
Dismantles machines or equipment to gain access to and remove defective parts, replaces defective parts and motors, and adjusts feed mechanisms. Replaces or repairs machine belts. Performs these duties with the aid of such equipment as hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools.
Holds scaffolding members in place or tightens bolts to erect working platforms about machines.
Cleans and lubricates machine parts, such as, but not limited to, shafts, pulleys, gears, and bearings, using rags, brushes, grease gun, oil can, and other required tools not specifically listed here.
Removes dust, dirt, grease and waste material from machines.
Painting machines or equipment to prevent corrosion.
May install and repair electrical systems and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment, following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints and other specifications, using hand tools, power tools and electrical and electronic test equipment.
Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement.
May diagnose/troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment, such as control circuits, motors and lighting fixtures, HVAC systems, using testing equipment, and make necessary repairs, such as replacing damaged or broken wires and cables. Troubleshoot to component levels
Tests malfunctioning machinery, using test equipment and discusses malfunction with other maintenance employees to diagnose malfunction. Replaces faulty electrical components of machinery, such as wiring, fuses, relays, switches, electric motor bearings and motors and positions sensing devices.
May diagnose and repair or replace faulty electronic components, such as circuit boards, and mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
Maintains tools and equipment and keeps supplies and parts in order.
May repair electronic equipment such as industrial controls, audio systems, transmitters, and servomechanisms, following blueprints and manufacturers’ specifications and using hand tools and test instruments.
Converses with machinery/equipment operators to ascertain problems with machinery/equipment before breakdown and to determine if breakdown is due to human error or mechanical/electrical problems.
Tests faulty machinery/equipment and applies knowledge of functional operation of electronic/electrical systems or units to diagnose cause of malfunction.
Tests electronic components and circuits to locate defects, using oscilloscopes, signal generators, ammeters and voltmeters. Replaces defective components and wiring and adjusts mechanical parts, using hand tools and soldering iron. Aligns, adjusts and calibrates equipment according to specifications.
Maintains records of repairs, calibrations and tests.
May connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment, using hand tools. May install control and distribution components such as switches, relays and circuit-breaker panels, fastening in place with screws or bolts, using hand tools and power tools.
May connect power cables to equipment and installs grounding leads.
Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments, such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer and oscilloscope.
May bend and cut conduit and wire, and drill holes in walls, floors and ceilings for electrical connections.
May connect wire to motors, fixtures, and other electrical equipment, replace switches and fuses and splice wire and insulates wire with friction tape.
May bend, cut and thread pipe, cut openings in walls, ceilings and floors for pipes, seal pipe joints with sealing compound.
May cut out and join parts for worktables, benches, shelves and other furnishings, using power tools and hand tools.
May be required to assist with plumbing repair work, building construction/remodeling/repairs, general machinery maintenance or repair duties.
May patch or replace plaster or plaster board and paint walls, ceilings, and trim of building.
May drill and break up concrete.
May mix and pour concrete for foundations.
May weld and fabricate a variety of deigns, including fixtures, carts, tables, and platforms using MIG, TIG and/or stick methods.
Clears clogged drains and replaces plumbing fixtures.
Inspects products and processes while performing job duties to ensure all work done meets or exceeds standards of the company’s quality program.
Works cooperatively and congenially with co-workers to achieve cohesive and productive work processes and work environment.
Performs additional tasks as assigned by management or as the situation requires.
