The Director of Engineering, Developer Services is a pivotal leadership role charged with guiding and engaging our gaming developer community. This role requires an individual who has successfully shipped both PC and console games and is well-versed in large-scale development using C++. The Director will oversee the development and enhancement of APIs, SDKs, and developer tools tailored specifically for Unreal Engine, playing an integral role in driving our gaming platform's strategic vision.
Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the Developer Services engineering team, setting clear objectives, driving performance, and fostering professional growth.
Design, build and enhance technology platforms, APIs, SDKs, and developer tools, improving the game development process on our platform.
Collaborate with Product Managers to define and implement the strategic vision for developer services.
Act as the primary liaison with our developer community, understanding their needs, pain points, and using this information to guide the improvement of our services.
Anticipate technology shifts, devise strategies to minimize their impact, and pivot quickly when situations change.
Define metrics and KPIs to measure the success and performance of our developer services.
Develop and adhere to a staffing plan and budget, effectively managing resources.
Foster relationships and work successfully with outside development partners.
Ensure best practices to minimize cross-platform development overhead are adhered to.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Minimum 10 years of experience in software or game development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Shipped both PC and console games, and well versed in large-scale development using C++.
Designed, built, and improved technology platforms over time.
Experience managing and scaling high-performing engineering teams.
Proficiency in multiple programming languages:
C/C++, Python, C#.
Proven ability to anticipate technology shifts and design to minimize impact.
Experience in working with outside development partners and managing cross-platform development overhead.
Flexibility to pivot quickly when situations change.
Preferred Skills:
15 or more years of related or equivalent experience.
Has shipped games using both Unreal Engine.
Experience shipping games on multiple console platforms.
Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Understanding of a wide range of game developer tools and technologies.
Experience managing remote teams.
Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD processes.
The role primarily involves remote-based work, but may also involve travel to developer conferences, game expos, and events. Remote work flexibility may be available. Extended working hours may be required during critical project timelines.
