Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (AS) sector is seeking a Director 2 Vehicle Engineering (VE) to lead the functional discipline of approximately 2,200 engineers. This key leadership role reports to the AS Vice President of Vehicle Development and can be based out of Palmdale, CA or Melbourne, FL.
The VE organization manages a variety of aircraft development and sustaining skills including (but not limited to) configuration, aerodynamics, propulsion, guidance navigation and controls, loads and dynamics, mechanisms, fluid systems, electrical systems, materials and processes, structures, liaison engineering, standards, and tools development. The talent across VE supports all Aeronautics Systems business divisions and reside at all the Aeronautics Systems geographic sites including Melbourne, FL;
Palmdale, CA;
San Diego, CA;
Southbay (El Segundo / Redondo Beach / Manhattan Beach), CA;
and Clearfield, UT. Successful leadership of this organization requires the ability to drive quality and efficiency through development and deployment of world-class people, processes, tools, and products.
The Director 2 will be responsible for leading the VE organization by championing diversity, equity, and inclusion to foster a high-performing, motivated, and engaged culture. They will manage the processes and tools used by VE to ensure the engineers are trained, equipped, and empowered to support AS programs, captures, Non-Contractual Technical Activity, and other efforts. This leader will also be responsible for establishing the vision and strategy for the VE organization and collaborating broadly up and across both AS engineering leadership and the enterprise in pursuit of collective business objectives.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Providing leadership, shaping the VE strategic vision and direction, as well as providing oversight of all major functions within the organization
Leading successful execution of VE work scope on all efforts, and as part of this successful execution partnering with programs and captures to collect meaningful metrics and collaborate to use those metrics to improve processes and tools that will result in improved affordability and quality
Identify organizational risk and plans to manage the risk. Address performance shortfalls through root cause and corrective action assessments and develop containment and long-term corrective action plans that include long-term verification of successful improvement and sharing of lessons learned across the engineering organization
Leading the effort to fulfill staffing requirements and maintain the VE staffing levels as needed to support our programs and captures in collaboration with the broader engineering organization and talent acquisition
Develop initiatives and collaborate with the broader engineering organization and TA/HR to reduce attrition
Define training plans for both existing and incoming employees in collaboration with the Aeronautics Systems Engineering Technical Development Organization, and overall foster a culture of learning that includes active mentoring and knowledge sharing within the organization
Drive improved employee engagement and appreciation through verbal, written, and tangible recognition, events, and personal interactions
Oversee program/project reviews, independent technical reviews, program stand-up reviews, NCTA and indirect activities, process improvement plans, proposal review and signoff, and capital planning and management
Affordably develop and manage the organizational budget including the NCTA, indirect, and allocation plans
Equitably manage the yearly cycles for promotions, merits, and bonuses that affordably balances the experience base across the organization, and achieves retention objectives

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline AND 10 years of related professional/military experience OR a Master of Science (MS) in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related professional/military experience
Must have an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs
Minimum of 6 years of vehicle leadership experience in an integrated product team environment
Ability to travel as needed (approx. 25-50%)
Preferred Qualifications:
Current TS/SCI and SAP clearances
MS or MBA degree
Experience across lifecycles including Research and Design, Product Development or New Product Introduction, Production, and Sustainment
Demonstrated success as an engineering leader over large (>
100 person) teams
Exceptional communication skills
Program management experience
Experience leading MBSE initiatives

Salary Range:
$197,500 - $343,100
The above salary range represents a general guideline;
however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
