Job Description
Under general direction, the Deputy Director for Inspection Services is responsible for the daily management, development, coordination and implementation of procedures and policies to comply with all Building, Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical, Housing, and Disability Access Codes, technical code evaluation and at times, physical inspection of properties and construction. Deputy Director of Inspection Services is a high level administrative and policy influencing position that provides recommendations to other members of the Executive leadership on department goals, objectives, policy changes, staff recommendations and reorganization. This position also reports and consults directly with the Mayor’s Office, the Building Inspection Commission and other boards and departments on issues related to the building code compliance process.
The Deputy Director for Inspection Services oversees the Inspection Services and Code Compliance Program, which includes Building Inspection, Plumbing Inspection, Electrical Inspection, Housing Inspection, and Code Compliance &
Complaints. The Inspection Services Division consist of Inspectors, Sr. Inspectors, Chief Inspectors, managers, and Permit Technician I's, II's and III's.
MAJOR, IMPORTANT, AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Directs the development and implementation of goals, performance measures, objectives, procedures, policies and strategic plans for the Inspection Programs;
Oversees the operations and daily management of five major department divisions by setting goals and objectives and monitoring the performance of subordinate staff;
Represents the department before the Commission, Board of Supervisors, Mayor’s Office, other agencies, departments and other public forums;
Directs the development and implementation of the operational budget;
monitors expenditures to ensure adherence to the approved budget;
Ensures staff compliance with state mandated AB 717.
Provides guidance and support to Chief Inspectors in the interpretation of all related building codes and makes professional recommendations on various interpretations;

Other duties as assigned.
