Job Description
The Critical Facilities Technician (CFT) is responsible for all aspects of data center operations related to critical and non-critical infrastructure, equipment, and systems. They will participate in an unwavering attitude and commitment to safety and reliability within the Data Center. The CFT will drive continual improvements to the operational excellence of the data center by adhering to company standards and industry best practices. They will have a mindset of ongoing learning and development. Any resource who has not completed Level I training within 30 days of employment, and Level II training within 60 days of employment, will not be allowed to work on shift by themselves without a resource that has completed both Level I and II training.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Operate, maintain, support, monitor, report on, and test critical and non-critical infrastructure equipment, and systems supporting the data center which includes:
fire protection systems, generators, diesel fuel systems, UPS, floor and in-rack PDUs, power circuits / whips, circuit breakers remote power panels (RPP), floor static switches, transformers, automatic transfer switches, power infrastructure, mechanical infrastructure, electrical infrastructure, main and generator switch gear, batteries for all equipment, controls / building automation systems subfloor leak detection system, breakers for all equipment, load balancers and capacitor banks, and HVAC infrastructure and controls and systems (raised floor and non-raised floor), including, but not limited to air cooled chillers, chillers, chiller plant, water tower, air handlers
Plan, schedule, and execute preventative maintenance activities of the data center infrastructure and all critical systems based on client contractual requirements and maintenance window;
identify and communicate findings to IT Operations, provide quotes to address any issues
Manually operate or be able to put in bypass mode mechanical/electrical equipment supported by the Data Center Facilities team in case automation doesn’t work or testing is being performed.
Work with a team of CFTs to deliver Total Availability (100% uptime) to T5’s client while minimizing risk
Assist in creating proposals (RFPs, SOWs, Quotes, Contracts) for services, products, or equipment using client’s template;
research and identify best-in-class 3rd parties to supply services / compete in the bidding process;
request quotes from vendors;
maintain list of MEP vendors for reference
Coordinate and oversee repairs, modifications, or new construction to physical site infrastructure components done by 3rd parties and validates the work meets the expected benefits and defined scope. If it doesn’t, then hold 3rd parties accountable for completing the work per the scope
Provide first response assessment of facility emergencies and dispatch vendors or resources to restore services
Oversee and assist with the development, revision, and execution of approximately 200 operating procedures and preventative maintenance inspections;
perform quality controlreviews to ensure accuracy, clarity, and continual improvement
Develop and document Maintenance Operation Procedures (MOPs) and data center standards and policies, including, but not limited to, Method of Procedure, Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), and Emergency Operation Procedures (EOPs)
Drive assigned issues/incidents to resolution, &
determine root cause ofissues as appropriate
Manage onsite support of contractors performing infrastructure projects during IT service window or vendors that come on site to support a work effort, preventive maintenance, or testing. e.G. electricians, UPS technicians, etc. and ensure the appropriate access documentation is approved
Writes repeatable checklists for preventive maintenance and routine work
Responsible for ServiceNow change ticket entries for scheduled work
Coordinate receipt and/or shipment of IT equipment with vendors or client personnel
Manage installation and removal services for IT assets and systems supported by the mechanical/electrical engineering technician
Coordinate recycling of equipment and/or cables with vendors
Monitor use of physical site premises power and utilities, make recommendations as needed in regard to capacity, local building codes, zoning, people or infrastructure;
oversee changes to physical site infrastructure to prevent adverse impacts
Evaluate new hardware deployments and associated equipment to ensure electrical loads and redundant systems will support this deployment
Communicate and partner with T5 and client operations, project managers, data center technicians, and other stakeholders on planned work, current work activities (testing/preventative maintenance milestones, etc.), work performed, and risks/impacts via ongoing conversation, project and/or preventative maintenance communication
Maintain and track power circuits and circuit breaker installs and de-installs, as well as maintaining used and un-used capacity;
maintain Breaker Panel documentation
Coordinate and oversee janitorial services for raised floor and mechanical/ electrical rooms
Maintain physical site location to provide clean operating environment free from litter, dust, and pollutants
Provide monthly metrics e.G. Floor PDU capacity, UPS capacity, power utilization, etc.
Track hours by project worked and present the information to the project manager on a weekly &
monthly basis for chargebacks
Photograph before and after shots of physical infrastructure work efforts
Partner with outside inspectors as appropriate
Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as a tool to manage all planned and unplanned data center work
Work shifts to support 24x7x365 data center operations including:
1) have flexibility in work hours to cover other shifts, 2) arrive on time for each shift or notify your CFM 30 minutes in advance to ensure contractual coverage, and 3) in the event of a weather event or when contracted coverage is not available at the site, be available to stay on site until staffing relief can be provided
Work with the CFM and CFT team to provide on-call support 24x7x365 in case of an emergency with 20 minute on site response time
Adhere to all federal, state, local, client (Data Center, Corporate Security, and IT Security), and company policies and procedures
Complete other such duties, including onsite special projects, consistent with your role as may be assigned by client management or T5FM management
