Job Description
This position is expected to begin as soon as available in our Transportation Aviation Business Line. This position is available as a part-time variable on a project by project basis throughout the region where the candidate will be expected to perform full-time work for each project assigned from start until completion until new project is assigned. This includes projects located throughout the Mid-Atlantic including Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and on occasion, other surrounding states in the Eastern region.
The position involves construction inspection and management of airport projects dealing with airfield safety, standards, improvement, and expansion programs. Construction work includes construction administration and management including shop drawing review, responding to contractor questions, and construction inspection. Additional work includes environmental permitting, review of construction plans, specifications, schedules, design reports, and cost estimates to support the design team, including constructability reviews. The Aviation Engineering Group interacts with and is supported by many other in-house disciplines including Planners, Architects, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical and Special Systems Engineers in typical projects supporting our airport clients.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Performs construction administration and construction inspection.
Serve as independent lead RPR/RE on the construction phase of airport projects within the region led by our Hunt Valley, Maryland office.
Facilitate the construction management of the project through coordination with the Project Manager, Design Team, Contractor, and Owner.
Informal task supervision and mentorship of other Junior Engineers/Inspectors at the direction of the Project Manager.
Tracks quantities and work progress utilizing field measurements and Civil 3D.
Travel to airport project sites (expected 90%+ field work)
Conducts constructability reviews for airport projects to support design team.
Completes calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematics related to airport development projects including runways, taxiways, aprons, hangars, terminals, and other airport facilities.
Prepares and interprets construction specifications for airport development projects per FAA Advisory Circular 150/5370-10 and State requirements.
Prepares reports, schedules, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates.
Collects and analyzes data to support design and construction phases of projects.
Collaborates with other airport/civil engineering, architectural, and engineering disciplines, sub-consultants, Utility companies, permitting agencies, contractors, government and regulatory agencies, and clients.
Performs work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule.
Minimum Requirements
High School Degree and Minimum eight (8) years related experience performing the responsibilities outlined above for transportation related projects (highways, airports, rail, etc.).
Read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language
Abilityto work in both an office and field (construction) environment for extended working hours
Ability to pass Federal background and criminal investigation checks in order to obtain Airport identification badges.
Ability to travel to, reside, and work at airport sites throughout the region.
