Commercial Lines Underwriter I

The Commercial Lines Underwriter I is responsible for understanding and applying insurance coverage, rules and guidelines, as well as executing the underwriting decision-making process according to Company underwriting philosophy. Work is performed under general supervision.
Responsibilities
Determines and obtains information needed to effectively evaluate exposure to loss.
Applies good judgment in making independent decisions about risks under consideration.
Selects, rejects or offers acceptable alternatives for a given risk, within guidelines and philosophy established by the Company, using specialized knowledge and other pertinent information, such as underwriting reports, frequency and severity measures and policy payment history.
Communicates with Company associates, independent agents, CSRs and other insurance service organizations effectively and clearly.
Provides guidance to agents and CSRs on basic policy features, programs and coverages.
Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance in meeting a defined work schedule.
Provides outstanding service to internal and external customers with a positive, friendly attitude.
Other related duties as assigned by supervisor
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent preferred.
Demonstrates sufficient knowledge to have a clear understanding of insurance coverage and risk selection.
