Job Description
General Summary
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Clinical Excellence, the Clinical Coach is an experienced RN that functions at the unit level to provide “just in time” clinical support to orientation. The Clinical Coach serves as educator, mentor, and coach and uses a mix of real-time and pre-planned experiential learning activities and clinical support to achieve quality patient outcomes, promote Orientation Teams and promote clinical excellence. The Clinical Coach partners with Clinical Practice Specialists to assess, develop, evaluate and advance the nursing practice, professional identity and wellness of novice and advanced beginner RN’s as the transition into new specialty roles.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

Co-creates a psychologically safe environment that empowers a commitment to the priorities of a High Reliability Organization (HRO)
Mentors the Orientation Team to support growth and development as a team and in their respective roles as preceptor and orientee
Socialize the Orientation Team to unit practices, culture, and interprofessional team member relationships
Integrates evidence-based wellness tactics to support the Orientation Team and their individual role development
Creates opportunities to develop professional identity within the orientee and advance or refine professional identity within the preceptor
Partners with the orientation team to identify successful time management tactics
Facilitates learning conversations with and between the Orientation Team that uncover diverse perspectives and inform practice reinforcement or improvement
Engages the Orientation Team in opportunities and dialogue that exposes and reinforces the clinical reasoning that drives clinical decision-making
Supports the Orientation Team in exploring ethically challenging situations and identify next steps that maintain integrity
Co-creates experiential and evidence-based learning activities that promote interprofessional teamwork
Supports the Orientation Team in integrating concepts of social determinants of health, diversity, equity and inclusion into their practice.
Education and Experience
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. 4 year / Bachelor's Degree (Required)
Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland or eligible for licensure through reciprocity.
At least 1 year Experience in a lead clinical role. (Required)
1-3-year Clinical expertise in nursing specialty areas. (Required)

BLS Certification (Required)
Knowledge, Skills &
Abilities
Demonstrated ability to think critically, develop, plan and organize projects.
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to use computer systems/programs to manage clinical/administrative data.
Previous experience with precepting and onboarding.
Exceptional clinical expertise in relevant Nursing specialty.
General understanding of evidence-based practice.
General understanding of core precepting skills.
