Position Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant provides assistance in the examination and treatment of patients, under Physician/Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner supervision, in the ambulatory service clinical setting. Duties include:
chart review before patient clinical visit;
assisting physician with procedures/treatments;
equipment operation;
assisting patients in preparation for examination/procedure;
performs venipuncture;
specimen collection and submission to appropriate laboratory;
cleaning and sterilization of instrumentation;
order and inventory supplies;
records and documents in medical record;
maintains examination/procedure room supplies;
assists with efficient patient flow;
assists with orientation of new staff;
and participates in quality assurance programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

- High School degree or GED equivalent required.

- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant or Nursing Assistant Training Program and successful completion of the Medical Assistant/Nursing Assistant Certification Exam required. Specific applicable primary medical care MA experience may be substituted for formal training providing eligibility for RMA or AMT exam.

Required Licensure, Certification, On-going Training:

Certified Medical Assistant requires successful completion of the AAMA Medical Assistant Certification Exam.

Medical Office Assistant certification is preferred.

Must maintain certification/ registration throughout employment.

Valid CPR certification required upon hire and recertification required every two years.

Work Experience:

Three plus years of experience required. Preferably in a medical practice/healthcare setting.
