Job Description
Colby Community College is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Residence and Student Life.
Under the supervision of the Director of Residence and Student Life, the Assistant Director of Residence and Student Life shall be responsible for implementing, managing, and facilitating co-curricular programs and services that increase student growth, development, and success for approximately 240 residential, 260 in-person, and 5,000 online students. This position is a 12-month live-in position that participates in an after-hours duty schedule and supports a residential student population of about 250 students living in 3 complexes.
RESIDENCE LIFE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Director of Residence Life is responsible for assisting the director in all facets of residence hall management. This position is responsible for assisting in the operations of three residential facilities with approximately 300 residents. A high degree of student interaction is expected. Evening, weekend, and vacation work are required.
Additional Responsibilities:
Leadership Development - Recruit, select, train, and evaluate student leaders such as Resident Assistants, SGA officers, event assistants, desk assistants, and intramural coordinators. Coordinate the student organization registration process;
facilitate student organization and student organization advisor training;
develop resources for student organizations and advisors.
Program development and event management - Positively promote educational, cultural, social, recreational, service, and safety programs through direct involvement with students, faculty, and staff. This may include implementing intramural programs, a student mentoring program, a leadership development curriculum, and civic engagement opportunities.
Student organization advising – Guide and influence student representatives fairly and equitably elected or appointed to SGA, RHA, and NRHH leadership positions.
Crisis and conflict management - Serve as a primary resource for students, parents, and staff in handling residence hall inquiries, complaints, roommate conflicts, personal/emotional difficulties, and other concerns regarding the residential community. Assist with policy enforcement and behavioral accountability of students and resolve problems in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Partnership and collaboration - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, administration, and community volunteers to meet student needs. Participate in essential college activities that support student growth and development (i.E. athletics, cultural arts, student recruitment, and orientation programming).
Facilities management - Maintain high-quality facilities necessary for academic achievement and student success by managing functions for residence halls such as area cleanliness, key distribution/collection, damage assessment, maintenance requests, room checks, room assignments, and residence hall openings/closings
Budgeting - Allocate organizational resources to initiatives connected with student success outcomes and organizational priorities.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
Strong leadership, verbal/written communication, organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students, staff, faculty and external constituencies
Ability to maintain confidential information
Computer literacy
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience or substantial knowledge of advising student clubs and organizations
Experience in or knowledge of leadership development principles and practices for college students
Experience working in a fast-past, high-volume work environment
Foundational knowledge of student development theories and practices
Knowledge aboutor experience in culturally-responsive services valued by underrepresented student populations
WORK EXPERIENCE
Experience in Residence and/or Student Life is required.
TRAVEL
Minimal travel is expected for this position.
SALARY
$30,000 per year plusa campus apartment, basic utilities, and an 18-meal (per week) plan.
