Position Purpose:
The Assistant Director of Intercultural Life &
First-Generation Experience will serve to foster belonging and student success through their leadership in two dynamic areas of the Middlebury experience:
the Anderson Freeman Resource Center (AFC) and the First at Midd Program. The Assistant Director will develop and implement First generation programming and assist the Director of the Center in the management and coordination of all the functional aspects of the Anderson Freeman Resource Center.
This is a full time, benefits eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $53,035 to $66,314 per year.
Core Responsibilities:
● Coordinate yearly programming that centers the needs and interests of historically underrepresented students, especially BIPOC, First-Generation and Low-Income students.
● Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Center including supervision and mentorship of student employees, maintaining an active presence in the space, and providing touchpoints support for students and multicultural student organizations.
● Provide individualized care and resources for underrepresented students navigating challenges with identity development, campus climate concerns, academic demands, and financial or other institutional barriers.
● Engage in the AFC’s strategic planning and assessment processes, and advise the Director on strategic directions for the center as it relates to programming and initiatives.
● Lead the development of the First-Generation Experience including the planning and execution of First@Midd pre-orientation program, First-Generation parent and family orientation, First-Gen Excursions, and First-Generation Graduation.
● Establish and maintain connections with campus and community partners to provide holistic support and assist with institutional efforts to recruit, admit, enroll, retain, and graduate historically underrepresented students.
Requirements
● Master’s degree in Higher Education Student Affairs, Higher Education Administrative Leadership, or similar field of study.
● At least 2 years of post-graduate experience supporting first-generation students and developing initiatives to positively impact the experiences of minoritized student groups.
● Extensive knowledge of the challenges facing students from various historically underrepresented and marginalized populations.
● Experience designing and hosting student orientation events and multicultural programs.
● Experience training and supervising student employees.
● Ability to foster a collegial and collaborative work environment through effective outreach and partnerships with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
● Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
● Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
