Job Summary:


Receives inquiry calls and assists the caller with scheduling a face-to-face assessment or triage to the appropriate community referral.
Assesses or ensures assessment by a qualified mental health professional of patients who present for assessment.
Screens for medical and behavioral emergency conditions. Performs a comprehensive assessment and quality therapeutic care to patients seeking treatment for substance abuse, dual diagnosis, or psychiatric or emotional disorders;
coordinates with the clinical team/on-call physician to ensure these needs are met either at the facility or other appropriate community providers. Interprets treatment to patient and family to help reduce fear and other attitudes obstructing acceptance of care and continuation of treatment. Completes the administrative processes of admission and precertification of care with external payers, as necessary.

  • Always appears professional. Wears name badge at all times. Adheres to uniform standards if applicable.


Qualifications

Qualifications:


Education:
Master's degree in social work or counseling required. RN licensure may be used in place of a master's degree or per state regulations, or social services designee in the state of Indiana. Ohio assessment specialists must have the following, a BSW, MSW, or RN is eligible. Arizona assessment specialists must have the following behavioral health technicians or registered nurses, within 24 hours, behavioral health professionals are supervised by a facility licensed professional and are eligible. For Indiana, an individual with a bachelor's degree is under the supervision of a facility-licensed professional.


Experience:
Prior experience in a psychiatric healthcare facility working with adult and geriatric patients preferred. Must have strong clinical assessment skills.


License:
Current unencumbered clinical social work, counseling license, or per state of practice guidelines. RN license may be accepted but may vary based on the state. In Indiana, an MSW will be identified as a social services designee and licensed addiction counselor (LAC).. Valid driver's licenseanda favorable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), along with proof of insurance when using own auto.


Additional Requirements:
CPR and CPI certified within 30 days. May be required to work flexible hours and overtime, and ability to meet typing keyboard expectations. With proper credentials, Specialist may be required to complete vitals check on patients.
