Job Description
Summary/Objective:
The Analytical Laboratory Manager is responsible for providing direction in the overall operation and administration of the Analytical Laboratory. The Analytical Laboratory Manager will adhere to laboratory policies and procedures to include departmental programs, quality, and safety.
Essential Functions:

Oversee personnel and training of the analytical staff with the aim of improving overall procedural operation, developing applicable methodology and monitoring of the analytical lab output in an economic manner.
Coordinate sample submission (LWR), manage workflow by prioritizing multiple projects, set performance goals, and deadline management.
Consult with QC, QA, R&
D, and Sales in developing and refining new methodologies needed for in-house analytical testing to expand the Analytical Laboratory testing capabilities and produce cost savings.
Evaluate, specify and install needed in-house laboratory equipment to complement existing testing and as necessary to meet 21CFR guidelines.
Work with vendors regarding analytical testing and analytical instrumentation issues.
Represent and support the Analytical Laboratory in all customer, agency or certification audits.
Provide technical consulting services to QC, R&
D, QA, Op’s, and Sales as needed.
Review, train and follow methodology and instructions to perform analytical testing. Document analytical laboratory projects in lab notebook. Peer review of Chemist’s lab notebook (also Lab Technician’s as necessary).
Conduct additional testing investigations/trending for Out of Specification (OOS) results and report results to Quality Department.
Author reports, methods and/or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) necessary to maintain efficient laboratory operations and regulatory compliance (GLP, GMP, CFR, DSHEA).
Evaluate chemical and physical properties of organic and inorganic material and finished products and compare results to predetermined specifications.
Operate, maintain and troubleshoot various analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, UHPLC, ICP-OES, Dumas Protein Analyzer, Potentiometric Titrators, etc.
Comply with all safety and SOP procedures
Non-Essential Functions
Research and purchase Analytical and QC laboratory consumables.
Keep abreast of new equipment, technology, testing methods and reagents used in the industry.

Work Environment:
This job operates in an office and lab environment. This role routinely uses lab equipment and standard office equipment such as computers, calculators, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions, in books, manuals, and mathematical or visual form. Deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Perform ordinary arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric procedures in standard, practical applications.
Essential Functions Communication (Speech &
Composition):
Expression of a level to communicate verbally with clients/customers and others in English to obtain and provide basic information. Able to communicate by telephone. Capable of explaining routine policies and of properly referring more complex cases. Comprehension and expression of a level to draft lengthy technical documents in English such as project or research reports, and other advanced informational materials requiring grammatical correctness and clarity of expression. Requires ability to compose narrative text and technical data that may vary according to the intended audience. May involve a large volume of such composition.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employee will occasionally lift and carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds and sit for extended periods of time. Employee will frequently walk, use well developed coordination simultaneously and use peripheral vision and depth perception. Employee will continuously lift up to fifteen (15) pounds, use fingers for grasping, and use both hands, stand, read with attention to detail, seeing activities near and far and be able to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors, and use routine hearing ability.

Employee will occasionally work with sharp instruments, around dust, and work closely with others. Employee will frequently work around combustibles. Employee will continuously work in an inside environment, work with solvents, acidic/caustic agents, powders, and allergens (such as but not limited to milk, soy, wheat/gluten, egg, peanut, tree nuts), as well as other laboratory chemicals.
Travel:
Minimal travel required - ability to travel infrequently when necessary (seminars, expos, training, conferences, etc.)
