Key Responsibilities
Analytical Expertise:
Analyze polymer stream compositions and complex organic mixtures, including polymeric and biomass materials, using techniques like ICP, GC, HPLC, TGA, and FTIR.
Method Development:
Develop and apply analytical methods to support process development in local and large pilot plants. Collaborate with external labs for routine tests.
Data Analysis:
Utilize ASTM and EPA test procedures to perform ICP atomic emission spectrometry, ion chromatography, gas chromatography, and mass spectrometry.
Project Contribution:
Contribute to projects involving FTIR identification of plastics, rheology, and water analyses. Write and modify internal analytical method procedures focused on data quality and control.
Mentorship:
Mentor junior scientists, engineers, and technicians on instrument use and lab safety. Be the in-house expert on online process sampling methods.
Continuous Improvement:
Continuously improve lab safety standards and procedures.
Requirements
Qualifications
Educational Background:
PhD (preferred) or MS in Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or a related field.
Experience:
5+ years of industrial experience (outside academia), preferably in polymeric materials analysis. Postdoc assignments at national labs or independent companies are also valuable.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in troubleshooting and setting up instrumentation. Experience analyzing complex organic mixtures and metals within organic materials (biomass or plastics).
Analytical Skills:
Strong skills in mathematical analysis and data quality.
