5th Grade Science Teacher

St. Luke’s School, a secular (non-religious), college-preparatory day school serving grades 5 through 12 in New Canaan, Connecticut, seeks a full-time Middle School Science teacher, to teach 5th grade science as well as an introductory 5th grade computer science and engineering class. A successful candidate will join a team of passionate teachers who bring scientific concepts alive for middle school students. The 5th grade science curriculum sets the foundation for science in the Middle School with units covering physical, earth, and life sciences. The 5th grade computer science and engineering curriculum currently focuses on the iterative design engineering process and introduces students to Tinkercad, Scratch, and engineering tool safety in our .
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Teach full-time course load of 4 classes (most likely 3 sections of 5th grade science and 1 section of introductory 5th grade computer science &
engineering)
Participate in an after-school activity for three seasons (e.G., coaching or theater).
Serve as co-advisor for a group of 6 to 8 students.
Assist with supervisory duties, such as study hall proctoring, lunchroom supervision, and chaperoning events.
