SUMMARY:
The CNC Mill Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating conventional, special purpose, and computer numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. He/She should be detail oriented and possess strong time management skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The CNC Mill Machinist must demonstrate competence in the following areas.
Produces quality parts on CNC milling machines.
Loads parts, proves programs, operates controls, sets offsets, performs simple edits, deburrs and inspects quality of parts for conformance to requirements.
Studies and interprets drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and set-up requirements.
Measures and marks dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as a guide for subsequent machining.
Detects equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine, within capabilities, controls or control media as required
To ensure quality of production.
Reports all machine malfunctions to immediate supervisor.
Communicates with supervisor, engineers, production control, quality and other shop employees for assignments and to resolve machining or
Quality issues.
Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly and performs basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment.
Adheres to and complies with state and federal law, Company policies, and safety and environmental regulations within the scope of the job requirements.
Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders and shapers.
Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth and angle of cut or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
Participates in continuous improvement initiatives including but not limited to Lean.
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned at the discretion of the Machine Shop Supervisor.
Requirements
EDUCATION/JOB EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
A minimum of 3 years related experience required
Large Mill experience preferred.
Machining certificate from college or technical school preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to read and understand G code for machine operation in program or must have knowledge of CNC programming and understand codes used at the machine center.
Knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with an understanding of geometric tolerance and dimensions.
Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts and other accessories used on various machines.
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
Must possess basic math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometry and algebra for the purpose of calculating material fabrication.
Knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments.
Willing to run multiple machines independently or in a team environment.
Planning/Organizing - Uses time efficiently and is flexible in assisting in other areas when help is needed.

Efficiency - Completes work and manages workload according to due dates.
