Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW
KIPP Indy Public Schools seeks an experienced School-Based Medical Assistant (SBMA) who will support health needs across the KIPP Indy Public Schools community and campuses. Reporting to the Director of Student Health, the SBMA will be a member of KIPP Indy’s regional team and collaborate closely with the Managing Director of Campus Operations, the operations team, and external partners to prepare for and respond to the student and school needs as it relates to student health. The SBMA will work to ensure KIPP Indy Public Schools is living out our commitment to equity through providing student health services that drives student attendance and retention outcomes, establishes positive healthcare outcomes for our students, and increases student academic outcomes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Healthcare Services
Works to remove, modify, or reduce health-related barriers to learning
Creates a comforting and nurturing environment for ill students
Performs a variety of patient care services as directed by the Director of Student Health.
Assures smooth patient flow within the clinic, assist with examination procedures, collects patient information, performs general lab work, and provides patient education and clerical support.
Schedules appointments for the clinic and communicates schedules to stakeholders, lets all stakeholders know which students were sent home for the day.
Prepares exam rooms, equipment, medical records and patients for clinic visit and assists DSH/SBNP in patient exams and treatments.
Administers injections and immunizations, performs routine lab test and procedures, and performs quality control.
Provides daily, individual care to students, including but not limited to managing daily medications required by students, administering doctor prescribed medications to students and helping students with physical disabilities
Provides triage services for the clinic to establish what care is needed as students are entering the clinic.
Registers patients into computerized system for visits and ensure all paperwork is complete.
Maintains patient records for the clinic including assembling patient records, keeping all chart forms properly identified with the patient identification plate, and attaching reports into the record.
Maintains daily and monthly logs and prepares referral-tracking reports as required by clinic/service.
Maintains files and performs general office functions.
Obtains and provides educational materials and related information to the patient and/or family members
